How to Apply

The Moving Image Fund has two separate application procedures, one for projects in the pre-production stage and one for projects in the production and post-production stages.

In the pre-production stage, full applications are accepted for a June deadline each year. These applications are reviewed internally by staff, and filmmakers are notified of funding decisions in July.

In the production and post-production stages, letters of inquiry are accepted for a January deadline each year, and these LOIs are reviewed internally by staff. In March, the projects that most align with LEF’s funding criteria are then invited to submit a full application. All full applications are evaluated by a panel of peer reviewers made up of filmmakers and professionals in the field. This panel is anonymous, and changes every year. Filmmakers are notified of funding decisions in May.
Please be sure to read our guidelines and frequently asked questions before you apply, and to contact LEF New England staff by phone or e-mail to determine whether your project is eligible and a good fit for LEF's funding priorities.

The next LEF Moving Image Fund deadline will be Friday, January 25, 2019 at 11:59pm (midnight) for applicants seeking production and post-production funding. The submission forms will open in early November 2018. Because the LEF Moving Image Fund has adapted its application from the Documentary Core Application, you can get a head start on your application by visiting the Core Application proposal checklist on the IDA's website, which will give you a preview of the questions that will appear on the LEF Moving Image Fund online submission form.
