The Salem Film Fest, not to be confused with the Salem (Oregon) Film Festival, is happening soon – March 4 – March 10) in Salem MA.

It’s exciting to have a relatively new, all-documentary festival in New England, one with a carefully-chosen program of 30 films. The selection is heavily peppered with international films; SFF organizers claim Salem’s shipping-industry history as an asset:

“The festival finds its spirit in Salem’s history as the first great international city in America – establishing trade with the Far East and flooding this country with art, story, and culture from every continent.”

SFF is hosting public events (panels, filmmaker breakfast) and they have a blog http://www.salemfilmfest.com/blog/ with  interviews and more information about the their programming. Most of the screenings and events are happening at CinemaSalem, but there are also a few films at the Peabody Essex Museum - notably opening night film Bill Cunningham New York, (which fits in with the museum's recent Iris Apfel exhibit).

A LEF contingent will be attending the SFF - hopefully there will be time to go to one of those awesome witch museums they have in Salem, too.
